“On the last weekend of May in 1966, a new steam tourist railroad began carrying children of all ages through Delaware’s historic Red Clay Valley. Engine No. 92, a former Canadian National 2-6-0, pulled the first revenue train between Greenbank Station and Mt. Cuba.
Fifty years later, the Wilmington & Western continues to carry thousands of passengers each year, and has become one of the East Coast’s premier scenic tourist railroads. To celebrate this milestone, we have a variety of unique anniversary events scheduled throughout the summer, and it all kicks off on Memorial Day Weekend.
From your seat on our vintage train, history will come alive, senses will be excited, and a forgotten era will be re-lived (and we think you’ll have a little fun along the way)!
Come aboard and join us for our 50th Anniversary Season, as we celebrate a half-century of good, old-fashioned family fun in Delaware’s historic Red Clay Valley.”
